Family, Professional Life, Family Activities and Interests
Our family has lived in Vermont for three years. Until recently, Aaron and Kathryn had a wonderful mother who focused all of her attention on raising them. Unfortunately, Lori passed away in April. The children are adjusting very well to our new situation and I am extremely proud of them.
Aaron is a happy, outgoing 12-year old boy. He is involved in many activities. He is an excellent student and is particularly strong in math. Currently, he is taking guitar lessons and playing lacrosse. Kathryn is a cheerful, outgoing 10-year old girl. She is also an excellent student who excels at reading. (She devours books!) Kathryn will be swimming competitively this summer. She also intends to begin flute lessons this summer. I expect that both children would continue to participate in these types of activities next year.
I work as the General Manager of a large manufacturing operation located just north of Burlington Husky Injection Molding Systems.
In our spare time, we enjoy taking advantage of the outdoor activities that Vermont has to offer. In the summer, we love to go boating on Lake Champlain. We have a boat that is perfect for waterskiing and tubing! In the winter, we live 45 minutes from a great ski area - Sugarbush. The children both love to snowboard and I am an avid (although not particularly good) skier. When we are indoors, we like to watch movies, read and play games such as dominoes and cards.
Care Needs, Behavior Patterns, Routines, School and Social Activities
Aaron and Kathryn will be entering the seventh and fifth grade respectively at Shelburne Community School here in Shelburne. Our au pair will be responsible for caring for Aaron and Kathryn during my workday for the hours that they are not in school. (I leave for work at 6:00am and return home by 6:30pm.) The children need very little help in the morning getting ready for school. I would expect our au pair to help them with breakfast, preparing lunches, and drive them to school. (It is a five-minute drive.)
Both Aaron and Kathryn are beginning to form strong friendships with their peers and enjoy spending time with friends after school when time permits. On days when they do not have activities or appointments (doctor, dentist, etc.), I would like our au pair to ensure that the children can see their friends by helping to arrange transportation as needed. We live in a small community and driving is very easy.
Experiences with Other Cultures
I lived in Germany for three years while serving in the military and traveled extensively throughout Europe during that time. In my prior role with Husky, half of my team was located in Canada and I spent a significant amount of time there. I have traveled extensively for business, including Asia.
Home and Private Room
We live in a beautiful post and beam house overlooking a river. It is a very scenic, peaceful location, yet we are only a one-minute drive or a ten-minute walk to the middle of our small town. Shelburne’s small village center is the hub for most local activity - schools, post office and shopping. Our home has five bedrooms four upstairs and one in the walkout basement. The bedroom in the walkout basement is large, has a walk-in closet, a TV and a private bathroom. If our au pair would prefer to be on the upper level, that would be fine also. We will provide our au pair with a car (a 2003 Honda Pilot), a cell phone and a membership to a local health club.
Specific Rules
I would like for the au pair to be home by midnight during the week. The children and I are all very easy going and make friends quickly. We promise to respect our au pair and ask the same in return.
Community, Cultural and Social Opportunities
Our family would be a wonderful placement for an au pair. Shelburne is located 15 minutes south of Burlington, Vermont. Burlington is a wonderful small city with several colleges and an active cultural life. (I have found that I go to more concerts and plays here in Burlington than when I lived in Chicago because everything is so easily accessible.) Burlington’s airport is served by several low cost airlines that fly to New York City and Washington, DC. The pace of life is relaxed here in Vermont. The beauty and access to nature are wonderful. No traffic jams. No billboards. I think that our family would be wonderful place for an au pair who is interested in seeing the United States but is hesitant to live in a large, fast paced city.
We have been relying on a local college student for after school care for the past two months. We will continue to use her until our au pair arrives. It has been a very positive experience for all of us. My children are at an age where they are very independent. I am certain that they will become friends with our au pair very quickly. Because they are so independent, our au pair should have significant flexibility to pursue her studies or other activities that she is interested in. The three of us look forward to welcoming our au pair in August!
I co wy na to?
A tak swoj? drog? ten post chyba powinien sie pojawić w anglo-jezycznym w?tku -

Kinga, mam znajomego (skype frienda) z Vermontu wlasnie z Burlington.
Warunki moim zdaniem w porzadku.
Samochod komorka karnet na fitness--wowowo brzmi naprawde niezle Ciekawe jacy sa. Jak pogadasz z nimi przez tel. daj znac. -
